If you have ever tried knitting or embroidering, then you will quickly grasp the principle and understand how to weave from foil with your own hands. And after a few tries, when you get your hands on it, you can create more complex and larger crafts.

Subtleties in weaving with foil

1. Do not use heat-resistant or very thick foil. It will be hard work, your fingers will get tired quickly, and the products will be too stiff.
2. Use long scissors with straight blades. Open the scissors wide to avoid tearing the foil and creating bumps. If you are creating with your child, make notes with a pencil and ruler before cutting the strips.
3. The width of a standard roll of foil is 30 centimeters. Build on this by determining the length you need.
4. The most important thing is to learn how to weave flagella. To do this, simply crumple the cut-out strip of foil lengthwise. Continue to squeeze it with your fingers until you get a piece with a diameter of 4-5 mm. Squeeze the flagellum with two fingers and start rolling it, slowly walking along its entire length. As a result, a wire with a thickness of 1.5-2 mm should form.
5. Twisting such flagella is a mechanical exercise, so your attention is not required. Make a few of these while watching a movie or on a phone call. And then you just have to twist them, following the instructions.
6. Fix all parts with the same number of scrolls so that the symmetry of the object is not broken.
7. If you are weaving with your child, select craft patterns according to the age of the child so that it is not too difficult or easy for him.

And now, using an example, we will analyze how to make some foil crafts for the New Year. Let's start with a beautiful and original candlestick.

Materials for making

Prepare the following materials and tools for work:

• regular food foil;
• scissors;
• a candle for which, in fact, you will make a candlestick;
• tape centimeter;
• medium-sized tin cover.

Making a Christmas candlestick together

When everything you need is ready, you can start weaving from foil.

1. Take a lid, its diameter should be slightly larger than the diameter of the candle. Wrap the lid with foil.
2. Measure a strip on the foil that is 10 centimeters wide and about 5 centimeters longer than the circumference of the base of the candlestick. Cut out the resulting strip.
3. Roll this strip of foil into a thin, tight tube, like a flagellum, and connect the ends to form a ring. Tighten the connection well.
4. Cut 5 more strips of this width. The length depends on the height of the candle you have chosen. For example, 50-60 centimeters.
5. Twist the same tubes from the cut strips as before.
6. Take one flagellum and attach it to the ring, twisting it in half so that a loop appears on the main ring.
7. Do the same for the rest of the tubes. It turned out something like the sun.
8. Connect all the flagella together, doing three twists each time. As a result, you should get a mesh.
9. Place the ring in the lid.

I would like to present my master class on making foil roses. It is interesting to work with foil, although it is a very fragile material. But it was probably more difficult to take photographs. The foil is very reflective. A huge number of pictures were taken. For the master class I chose the most understandable ones.

The rose is made from food foil. From a roll of foil we tear off strips of the required width with a ruler (plastic or metal): 3 cm for weaving and 18 cm for a rose stalk.Tearing off the strips with a ruler is easier than cutting off with scissors, which become blunt after cutting the foil. Press the ruler tightly against the foil and carefully tear off the free edge.

Crumple strips of foil in width until a sausage is formed, 5-6 mm wide for a rose and 10-12 mm for a stem.

Then we form the tubes with rotational movements. I want to warn you right away that it is necessary to work very carefully with foil. The material is fragile and easily tears with sudden movements.

This technique of making foil threads was invented and patented by Olesya Emelyanova. I do not claim authorship of the manufacture of foil threads and the very fact of making works using foil threads. The weaving technique (the order of weaving the thread, the shape of the petals, the method of fastening the flower petals and other details I came up with myself, in no way claiming the authorship of the fact "Weaving from foil" - a new modern type of needlework patented by the author (RF patent for an invention and a method of making decorative threads made of foil and products from it No. 2402426).

We take a tube and roll it up in the form of loops as shown in the photo.

Create the third eyelet and place it between the first two. Height of the eyelet is 3-3.5 cm.

Fasten all three loops together with one turn of the tube.

We connect the ends of the tubes by twisting them in a spiral. The lower photo shows the connection.

Let's start braiding the vertical tubes.

The photo clearly shows that the tubes inside the petal are braided two at a time, and the outer ones one at a time.

We continue weaving, tightly pressing the turns to each other. But be careful if you pull on the foil too much.

We finish weaving the petal. Carefully cut the tube at a distance of 1 cm from the edge of the petal, tuck the tip inward (between the turns) and press.

The rose petal (inner part) is shown upside-down in the photo. We slightly wrap the upper wide edge. Tuck the tip of the tube at the lower edge of the petal inward and flatten the edge of the workpiece with pliers.

The photo clearly shows the thin flattened edge of the petal. There are 7 such petals to be made: 3 internal and 4 external.

On the outer petals with thick wire delakm 3 holes.

Insert the wire into the holes as follows: Insert a tube into the outermost hole, form a loop 3-4 cm long, return the tube to the other outermost hole, then return the tube to the loop, but into the middle hole.

Push the long end of the tube into the middle hole.

We begin to braid the vertical tubes with the long end of the tube, as shown in the photo.

We continue weaving.

We fasten to the end of the loops, tightly squeeze the ends of the tubes.

This is what the outer petal looks like from the side. A tube is inserted into the middle hole to attach the petal to the stem.

Required blanks for assembling a flower: a stem, 3 inner petals and 4 outer ones.

We wrap the stalk in the first petal.

We wrap the second petal from the opposite side.

We wrap the third petal, securing it to the stem.

We also attach the next petal, tightly tying it to the stem with two tubes (we inserted them into the middle hole at the base of the petal).

We attach the two outer petals to the stem opposite each other.

We also fasten the remaining two outer petals opposite each other.

This is what the flower looks like from below.

We lengthen one of the tubes and wrap it tightly around the stem (hiding all the ends under the winding). We leave the end of the tube long; we still need it.

This is what the finished rose flower looks like. But the work is not over yet.

We begin to make leaves. At a distance of 5 cm from the edge, we fix the tube (wrapping and pressing tightly)

At a distance of 1 cm from the place of attachment with a tube, we make a turn and return to the place of attachment.

We continue to braid the central tube, giving the blank the shape of a leaf.

The first leaf is ready, we attach a boil for the next leaf to the central tube.

We also form the second leaf. We wrap the tip of the leaf inward and press it tightly.

This is how our leaves look from below.

We also form the third leaf.

We attach the leaves to the stem of the rose. Remember we left a long tube at the base of the rose? We twist our stem with this tube in a spiral.

Our rose is ready.

Another option for product design.

How to make a foil flower with your own hands

Necessary materials:

- Foil;

1. The first thing we do is cut the foil into 3-4 pieces, approximately 10 cm wide.

2. We wrap each layer very thinly.

3. Press with your fingers. We should get these straws.

4. Take one of the straws and wrap it in such a way that we get a loop.

5. We remove the tail, pressing it to the future leaf.

6. Take the next piece of folded foil and place it in the middle of the sheet.

7. Press it with your fingers to the loop and wrap it, thus fixing the middle.

8. Leave the ponytail.

10. Fix the other end on the opposite side.

11. Do the same with the bottom vein.

12. Correct the foil leaf with our fingers and sharpen the end of the leaf.

13. Bend the leaf a little.

14. In the next step, we make a small one out of foil. We cut 4 squares, 10 cm each (the 5th will be spare). We fold each into a triangle.

15. Form the boat.

16. Sharpen the resulting boat at the edges and bend it a little. We have got such a petal.

17. Gather all the petals together and fasten them with foil straws.

19. We fix everything with a knot. We slightly bend the resulting tail with an arc.

Here is such a small flower made of foil.

Foil crafts are popular because it is absolutely not difficult to make them, and they look amazing. Making crafts will be a great occasion for the whole family to spend time together. The creation of such unusual things can be of interest to both the smallest family members and adults. Candlestick

Required material:

• foil measuring 200 centimeters by 21 centimeters;
• white cardboard;
• ruler;
• scissors;
• pencil.

From cardboard we will make a ruler template measuring 21 centimeters by 3 centimeters. Stripes will be cut across the width of this ruler.

Cut 6 strips of 21 centimeters by 9 centimeters from the foil.

We measure the rest of the foil in strips according to the size of the template.

Twist the flagella from thin strips (crush and roll it like a "sausage").

For the frame of our flashlight, we twist the same sausages from wide strips of foil.

Making a frame:

• We take a thick flagellum, retreat from the edge 6.5 centimeters and make a fold at right angles. After 10 centimeters from the fold, we make another one.
• By the same principle, we bend another wire and connect them together.
• Two such rectangles are required.
• We divide the two thick flagella that remained into two identical parts and cut. With these halves, we need to fasten our rectangles, attaching them to the vertices.

After the frame is ready, you need to decorate it. To do this, we make 4 spirals with a diameter of 3 centimeters from thin flagella. For the manufacture of fasteners for spirals, it is necessary to cut 2 flagella into 6 identical parts.

Select one of the square edges of the frame with the bottom. All 4 spirals must be attached to the bottom with previously prepared fasteners.

For the handle of the flashlight, you need to twist two thin flagella together, leaving the edges (no more than 1.5 centimeters) free. We fix the handle on the square opposite from the bottom.

We make spirals from thin flagella and decorate the walls of the flashlight with them in the same way as we decorated the bottom. You need 6 flagella per wall. There is no need to decorate the surface with a handle.

After the decor of the lantern is finished, you can put a small candle inside and enjoy its beauty.

the Rose

Required material:

• food foil;
• vase;
• decorative twigs;
• ruler;
• wire;
• glue.

From the foil, you need to carefully tear off long strips of 50-60 centimeters using a ruler. We level the foil on a flat surface with the matte side up and bend the gloss on one side, up and iron it, you can glue it.

We form a lateral bend 1-2 centimeters wide.

We wrap the upper part of the foil sheet to the middle.

We roll each resulting strip of foil into a rosebud in a spiral. And from the remaining free edge we form a flower leg.

Gently separate the bud with your fingers, shaping the petals.

All created flowers can be put in a vase and supplemented with decorative elements, you get a whole composition.

Antique effect

Required material:

• acrylic paints of colors: copper, bronze, black, brown, green;
• art brushes (mostly hard);
• foil;
• glue stick;
• A4 paper - 2 sheets;
• a jar for water;
• scissors.

Cut out a rectangle from the foil, slightly larger than A4 sheet.

Roll the rectangle into a loose lump.

We straighten the foil back without smoothing it.

We grease A4 sheet well with glue, then glue the foil on it, straightening it a little to the size of the sheet.

The resulting folds are slightly pressed against the sheet of paper so that they stick, but do not straighten them.

We prime the surface of the foil with a thin layer of bronze paint. Dry naturally or with a hairdryer.

Cut out a piece of the required size or use the entire sheet. Tears with fuzzy contours can be made.

We spread on the second blank A4 sheet a little bit of paint of all colors (bronze, black, green, brown) and mix with each other. But not completely mixing, but slightly combining. There should be a clear transition from lighter to darker shades.

We paint our foil with this mixture. It is better to lay out lighter shades in the center, and darker ones around the edges. It is not superfluous to add black pigment around the edges.

As a result, we get a color that resembles a swamp.

After the entire surface is painted, we proceed to drying.

To give the relief, it is necessary to squeeze a drop of bronze paint onto the pad of the fingers.

We gently run our finger along the colored foil. This will allow all of the bumps to be painted bronze and the valleys to remain black. Thus, the entire surface must be tinted. After drying, the workpiece is ready for use.

Foil background

Required material:

• foil;
• thick cardboard of the right size;
• acrylic primer;
• dish sponge;
• glue.

We coat the cardboard with glue very carefully.

We take a piece of foil larger than the cardboard blank, crush it. Then glue the slightly crumpled foil to the cardboard.

We press it to the workpiece, first with our hands, then with a dish sponge. The main thing is not to smooth it out on cardboard, but to glue it, leaving creases.

We wrap the foil around the edges and go along the edge of the table so that the edges have clear boundaries.

Glue the wrong side of the cardboard with glue.

On the seamy side of the workpiece, you need to smooth out the foil as much as possible and glue it to the cardboard.

Soak the edge of the sponge in acrylic primer and gently rub it over the front of our background.

After the entire surface has been processed, we wet the sponge again into the soil and pass it through the background again, just not rubbing it, but trampling it into the foil.

Surface abrasions can be done with the hard side of the sponge. The background can also be made from colored foil.

Butterfly scrapbook

Required material:

• foil;
• acrylic paints;
• two blanks of cardboard in the form of butterfly wings.

We prime one of the halves of the butterfly. Lightly crush the foil and glue it to the surface. It is important that no bubbles remain on the surface.

We cut off unnecessary foil strictly along the contour of the workpiece.

On the second blank, we apply numbers or symbols with coarse embossing powder.

We prime the second workpiece.

We glue the second blank in the same way. But, this time, carefully smoothing the foil so that the numbers or symbols show through.

The blanks in foil are ready and you can start finishing.

For the left side, you can take acrylic paints in white, dark pink and dark red shades.

We mix paints on a sheet of paper or newspaper with each other (it can be strong, but it can be slightly).

We take a dish sponge and brush paint on it with a brush. Then, with a hammer-in motion, we apply paint to the left blank.

After it dries, work through the surface with the hard side of the sponge to reveal the creases in the foil and add texture.

For the right side, mix the white and blue paint in a non-uniform manner.

Similarly to the left side, paint the second surface. After drying with the three hard side of the sponge, so that the embossing symbols appear.

We decorate the resulting butterfly with any desired decorative elements. You can connect the halves of the butterfly by making holes with a hole punch and inserting a ring into them, or tied with a ribbon.
